Frequently Asked Questions

It depends in which team you want to join. If you want to join the Synthesis or Testing team, it is recommended to have some chemistry knowledge. If you want to join the Hardware and Software team, it is recommended to have some experience in computer science. However if you aren't sure if you should join, don't hesitate to contact us and we can help you with the decision. :)

You can join by contacting Marc Bischof.

No, we build a phantom that simulates human tissues. It's the phantom team's job to try to reconstruct a model in which we can inject the nanoparticles so that it ressembles to the body.

No, we follow strict regulations. The pulsed laser is in Near Infrared (NIR) wavelengths which is unharmful if it is on for a limited time. The laser is on for 5 nanoseconds, then we need to wait for the accoustic waves to propagate, which takes around 1 millisecond and then we can repeat the process. So the laser is rarely on during an imaging process. The laser can blind you permanently but don't worry, we have specific glasses and measures to ensure everything is safe.
